“Overture” from ANNIE
I absolutely love the shit out of every second of this.
So apparently this has been CUT from the revival?!?!?
Perhaps there are more important things in the world to be concerned about.I’M MAD AS HELL AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!
Donald and I have been jointly seething about this since last night.
Ugh, this is still bothering me.
Great overtures pre-1964 were pretty common. But I’d say the one-two punch of Cabaret and Fiddler on the Roof ensured that overtures’ time was limited. (We’d like to thank you, Harold Prince, for really showing us the way.) I mean, what are the really great overtures beyond that era? I can think of three: Promises, Promises; Annie; and Merrily We Roll Along. (Sure, some other shows had overtures—Mack & Mabel comes to mind—but these three are worthy of induction into the hall of fame alongside Candide, Gypsy, Funny Girl, and Forum.)
What are your favorite post-1964 overtures?
My favourite part and the cut it?!? Thanks James Lapine…. :-/ It better be on the cast recording.
The Fully Monty has a fun overture! Ditto Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Yeah I’m gonna need a bootleg of this revival, PRONTO. I feel like they don’t need the overture but only if the opening...
DDDDDDDDDDDD= What. The. F.
Also. Nine.
I think Annie might be my favorite post-1964 overture, tbh. Although a pre-1964 overture that is pretty much flawless...

This is not acceptable.
But… but… but…. Shows always need overtures. Especially this one :(
Why, it’s the most disgusting, atrocious thing ever to happen in America.
WHAT
I know I’m a bit biased, but Annie has one of the most incredible overtures in the history of musical theatre, and it’s...

Movies with soundtracks need to sound like this.
Usually I hate overtures.. but this
