It’s like the Disney Main Street Electrical Parade cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and I love everything about it but mostly what happens around 0:40 and 1:36

Sinead O’Connor - Don’t cry for me, Argentina.

At first, I wondered why that song was showing up in my Tori Amos Deezer playlist. And then she started singing…

One of the many sub-collections within my music collection is covers of showtunes by pop, rock, jazz, opera, country, rap, metal, etc. acts. Not sure I’ve heard O’Connor’s “Don’t Cry For Me” before, but she’s a frequent contributor to this collection.

ETA: Just kidding, as soon as I started listening I realized I have the album this comes from. (It’s excellent.)

The entire 1984 television version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance (starring Sarah Brightman and Wayne Sleep) is on YouTube.

Let’s see how much of this I can sit through.

Heaven On Their Mind (Single Version) // Murray Head

I pride myself in having a pretty good collection of rare and hard to find Jesus Christ Superstar recordings.  This is about as an interesting of Jesus Christ Superstar rarity that there is.  Heaven On Their Minds was released as a single before the original Jesus Christ Superstar album came out in 1970.  The lyrics are almost completely different due to the fact that they did not want the lyrics to the single to be as potentially controversial as the song was presented in the context of the full piece.  Backup singers where also added to the piece.  The B side to this single was an instrumental version of Strange Thing Mystifying.  It’s an odd little piece but I find it really fun to listen to.

hahaha, the Madrid cast is better..IMHO

Since you mentioned it…

It’s a little too… understated? smooth jazzy? for me.

Original South African Cast,
Evita

Jo-Ann Pezzaro, South Africa’s Evita, sings “Buenos Aires.”

The volunteer on duty at the LGBT Center decided to put on The Phantom of the Opera. I haven’t seen the film in ages, although I liked it enough at the time to buy the DVD. Looking at it now, I still think it does the job well enough, but who on earth thought it was the right idea to cast Gerard Butler in a musical?
