The new Encores! season features the musicals “Little Me,” “The Most Happy Fella” and “Irma La Douce.”
I WAS JUST SAYING IT’S TIME FOR A CY COLEMAN SHOW!
And I am DYING to see Irma La Douce!
And who doesn’t love Most Happy Fella? With a full orchestra!
I know I make fun of everyone on the internet for abusing the words “perfect” and “flawless” but, well…
Debbie Gravitte singing THE BROADWAY SONG from Pamela’s First Musical.
Music by Cy Coleman. Lyrics by David Zippel. Book by Wendy Wasserstein.
The closest this ever came to the stage was a benefit concert I worked on starring Donna Murphy at Town Hall back in 2008. This recording, however, is from a prior workshop performance starring Debbie Gravitte.
1. You should all be following kdtonbroadway.
2. I would like to hear the rest of this recording.
3. Donald and I are seeing Debbie at 54 Below in a couple of weeks, and I couldn’t be more excited about this!
The Doodletown Pipers strike again (they clobbered the Beatles earlier here) with what I consider the ultimate Doodletown Pipers track, this number from Sweet Charity. This is a good place to note that, judging by that promo shot, they aren’t an all-identical twin band, but a mostly-identical twin band, which is another whole thing entirely.
This is kind of what the world sounds like inside my head.

When Sweet Charity was last revived on Broadway, I thought much of it was an exercise in bad taste. But at least they didn’t replace the overture (!!) with a tarted up version of the opening number from the film, as the Italian production that shared its marketing apparently did. Please enjoy (or, at least, marvel at) “New York Diventa Una Cosa Mia” (aka “My Personal Property”) performed by Lorella Cuccarini.
Pearl Bailey sings “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from Sweet Charity.
When a fabulous track like this languishes for days without any notes, the terrorists win.
Debbie Shapiro Gravitte sings “Big Fat Heart,” cut from Seesaw. (Recorded on Lost in Boston III.)
There are only 27 people following Fuck Yeah Dorothy Fields and that is not acceptable.
Sammy Davis, Jr. sings “My Personal Property,” the opening number from the film version of Sweet Charity.
If you don’t follow my Dorothy Fields blog you’re missing out.
