And really, if you got through all 13 minutes of side one, you can’t help but continue on to side two.

This is 13 minutes long but worth every minute. (And that’s just side one!) Please note how the arrangement manages to build in excitement and complexity across all 13 minutes. (YES, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, I AM TALKING TO YOU.) That’s how you do it.

This video is my everything.

We should be immune to “put a new, slightly more robust beat under an old classic” as a remix trick by now. We should be.

Have a good, safe weekend. Tell your friends about Disco Potential if you like what we do here, and point them to our DJ mix archive if they want something to listen to.

Totally unrelated to my last post here and entirely related to the most recent post on Fuck Yeah Stephen Sondheim, one of my favorite “batshit crazy reinterpretations of a classic showtune” tracks ever is The Weather Girls singing “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair” from South Pacific.

ohrochester:

Gawker commenter Defender90CA on Village People musical “Can’t Stop the Music:”

CSTM was directed by Nancy “you might remember me from such roles as Rosie the diner waitress in Bounty paper towel commercials or Rhoda Morgenstern’s mom on Rhoda” Walker. I met the woman who was the script supervisor on CSTM and her strongest memory of Walker as a director was that she never took her handbag off her shoulder

I love everything about Can’t Stop the Music.

Everything is Disco Evita and nothing hurts.
