Sinead O’Connor - Don’t cry for me, Argentina.
At first, I wondered why that song was showing up in my Tori Amos Deezer playlist. And then she started singing…
One of the many sub-collections within my music collection is covers of showtunes by pop, rock, jazz, opera, country, rap, metal, etc. acts. Not sure I’ve heard O’Connor’s “Don’t Cry For Me” before, but she’s a frequent contributor to this collection.
ETA: Just kidding, as soon as I started listening I realized I have the album this comes from. (It’s excellent.)
junkenglish replied to your video: “Buenos Aires” from Evita, 1981 Mexican cast
hahaha, the Madrid cast is better..IMHO
Since you mentioned it…
It’s a little too… understated? smooth jazzy? for me.
Jo-Ann Pezzaro, South Africa’s Evita, sings “Buenos Aires.”
Probably my favorite Evita and Cast Album of the show!
Buenos Aires, Evita: 1989 World Tour Cast Recording. Florence Lacey as Evita.
I just love the ways she plays Eva and her acting choices truly bring the character out. The orchestrations are also superb! I listen to this about 15 times a day, and drive to school listening to it. I’m so cool…….
THIS IS FIERCE AS SHIT.
LOVE the way Lacey pronounces ‘Aires’ ‘Eye-reeeze”
The last “star quality”. KILLS.
I want a venn diagram with “Amazing Eva Perons” on one side, ”Amazing Irene Malloys” on the other side, and “Florence Lacey” in the middle.
I love Lacey, but the draggy tempo and (with all due respect to the OP) totally 80s orchestration keep the track from greatness.
In related news, Karaoke Cave on 13th St. between 5th and University has this song in their catalog, only with the full Broadway version including the pause for Mandy Patinkin’s monologue.
Missed the Tony noms in real time, so I will now tweet my reactions to the list, as published by Playbill: owl.li/aCQOh

Best Play noms all seem appropriate to me. I can only understand Leap of Faith’s nom as a fuck you to Ghost, or a gift to @mrtylermartins.

Is Evita really a better revival than Godspell?
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Controversial opinion: I would vote for One Man, Two Guvnors for Best Score.
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
The Best Actor in a Play category is like an amazingly demented game of F/M/K. I need to see a lot of plays in the next month.
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Not sure who I’d bet on for Best Actor in a Musical, but I think Ron Raines is safe not writing a speech.
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
I haven’t seen all the Best Actress/Musical nominees, but based on first out of town preview of P&B I’d give @AudraEqualityMc all the Tonys.

DEAR GODS OF THEATER PLEASE LET ANDREW GARFIELD AND REEVE CARNEY DO A SPIDERMAN BIT AT THE TONY AWARDS INVOLVING UPSIDE DOWN KISSING
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Also Phillip Boykin. (Meaning he should get a Tony Award, not an upside-down kiss from Reeve Carney. Well, maybe that too.)
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Best Featured Actress in a Musical should be renamed Best Featured Actresses in Roles/Shows Clearly Beneath Their Talents.

Peter and the Starcatchers got a design nod? Isn’t it a bare stage and a piece of rope?
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
If Bob Crowley doesn’t win for design of a musical then we are doomed to a decade of Broadway shows that look like videogame acid trips.
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Godspell didn’t get a single nomination? WTF Tony Awards? You really thought Spiderman and Ghost and Leap of Faith were more worthy? FEH
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Seriously I think it’s a shame that @solidgoldstein wasn’t recognized for his work on @BwayGodspell.
— David Levy (@itsdlevy) May 1, 2012
Also, if Bernie Peters can get a fake Tony as an apology for not getting an acting nom, can’t we recognize the ensemble of @BwayGodspell?

<END OF TONY RANT>

TimeOut New York has done their semi-annual roundup of the hottest chorus boys and chorus girls opening in shows in the next couple of months.
At first glance, I can say that Evita seems to have the guys I’d most want to lick, and Nice Work If You Can Get It has the guys I’d most want to hug. Honorable mention to Jesus Christ Superstar for being more or less the half-way point between licking and hugging. And WTF if going on in the picture of the guy from Newsies?
Also, isn’t it nice for a chance to have a feature where the ladies are wearing more clothes and being slightly less objectified than the gentlemen?
A bunch of us were talking on Twitter today about Leslie Kritzer’s recreation of Patti LuPone at Les Mouches. I found some videos of the show. Thanks, myspace!
