I’ve been listening to a lot of Peter Allen lately. But before I had ever heard of him, or Hugh Jackman, or even Olivia Newton-John, I knew this song from The Muppets.
Incidentally, I think this might need to enter my karaoke repertoire.
I stopped watching Glee about two-thirds of the way through this season, but I continued DVRing the show. Over the last couple of days I just burned through the rest of the episodes. Most of my complaints about the show remain, but as always, there are flashes of brilliance that feel like rewards for shrugging off the inconsistent characterizations, dropped plot lines, etc.
Whoever had the idea for Chris Colfer’s Kurt to perform Peter Allen’s “Not The Boy Next Door” deserves the grand prize for Glee season 3. This was the perfect melding of song, character, context, and performance. So good, I’ve almost forgotten the abominable “Rain in Spain” punked up for Puck and the boys. (shudder)
