The first timeless song to win the award was followed in 1937 by the first really forgettable song to the the award, “Sweet Leilani” from Waikiki Wedding, music and lyrics by Harry Owens and performed by Bing Crosby in the film.
It beat “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” the year that George Gershwin died!!! Can you imagine?
