I’ve lost track of whether or not I’ve reblogged all of their songs, but I’m pretty sure I missed this one, which is a crime, because it’s really really really good.
Fairly certain some of these colors no longer exist.
Having a Kaye Ballard morning. Here’s her medley of songs from Cabaret from the Carol Burnett Show.
Margaret Whiting: more than just a poor man’s Rosemary Clooney.
Margaret Whiting: more that just a game show panelist.
Margaret Whiting: more than the improbable wife of a gay porn icon.
Play along, friends!
Sometimes you just stumble upon utterly delightful cabaret albums. Susannah Mars: Take Me To The World is one such album. Enjoy.
When I was little, my parents took me to see a lot of live theater. At first, our excursions were primarily to community theaters and semi-professional productions. When I was eight years old, they took me to my first “first-class” production, the first national tour of Big River. I was already familiar with the show from our cassette of the original cast recording, but I was so swept away by the magic of theater that I was hooked for life. Before long, that cassette was supplemented by a paperback copy of the script and the piano/vocal selections of the score. I loved the show so much, I wanted to own a piece of it, and this was how I did it.
Dee Snider is doing a showtunes album??
According to Talkin’ Broadway:
Dee Does Broadway
(Razor & Tie - new on CD)
Twisted Sister band member Dee Snider (Rock of Ages) duets with Patti LuPone, Bebe Neuwirth, Cyndi Lauper and more this new album of show tunes. “Cabaret,” “The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd,” “Big Spender” (with Cyndi Lauper), “Mack the Knife,” “Whatever Lola Wants” (with Bebe Neuwirth), “Music Of The Night” (with guest violinist Mark Wood), “The Joint Is Jumpin’” (with Jesse Blaze Snider), “Luck Be A Lady” (with Clay Aiken), “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “There Is Nothin’ Like A Dame” (with Priscilla cast members Will Swenson, Tony Sheldon and Nick Adams), “Razzle Dazzle.”
I love shit like this.
A bunch of us were talking on Twitter today about Leslie Kritzer’s recreation of Patti LuPone at Les Mouches. I found some videos of the show. Thanks, myspace!

On my trip to France, my brother wouldn’t let me near a big music store lest I repeat my binge from Dress Circle in London, but I did manage to snag a used copy of the cast album from last year’s Cabaret revival, a French-language rendition of the production originated by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall in London and on Broadway. This track is Fabian Richard, as the Emcee, singing “I Don’t Care Much,” or as it’s called in this production, “Je M’en Fous.”
(The album is great, by the way. It’s recorded live but sounds like it was done in a studio. The whole cast is spot-on. I can’t speak to the quality of the translation, but the show is currently playing a return engagement in Paris so clearly the locals love it too.)
Since I’ve spent the last hour bitching about Rob Marshall on Twitter and my other Tumblr (in light of the announcement that he’s developing a film version of Into the Woods), I thought this would be a nice way to remember that Marshall has done some good things too. Although, from what I understand, despite his billing as co-director, he was really just a choreographer who worked overtime.
