I had the trade paperback collecting this miniseries when I was a kid and I read the fuck out of it.
Yesterday I told you about the off the panel comments that Joe Quesada had to say about Marvel movies with female leads. Today I bring you more no on the panel comments. Reporter Abby Chandler who writes for the Badhaven site states Quesada told her that:
A script for a Ms/Captain Marvel movie is ready to go. They just needed an actress. Marvel are having a meeting in a couple of weeks and will be ready to announce some films then … He said we’d be pleasantly surprised.
The ongoing Captain Marvel by Kelly DeConnick starts in July so that would be good timing and good publicity.
So there’s the character. But if you remember Quesada said that he couldn’t think of a an actress to for a tentpole film. Let’s help him! Cast Carol Danvers.

I know they’d never go for an older Captain Marvel, but I’d kill to see Felicity Huffman take on the character, with a script modeled after Brian Reed’s run on the book that had Carol as an older hero looking back on a life of being second-best and deciding to try for a second act that could outshine the first.
The Avengers has always been “my” comic book. When I was a kid and first started reading comics, that was the title I subscribed to, for the very reasons Stan and Jack created it — I wanted to get several superheroes for the price of one. (Plus, She-Hulk was one of the headliners then, and she’s pretty fabulous.)
When I started reading comics again as an adult, I also started with The Avengers, coincidentally starting their new golden age under the pen of Brian Bendis the very week I wandered back into the comic book store. Under Bendis, The Avengers was as much about the soap opera dynamics of a group of strong personalities working and living together as it was about the pow and the smash and the boom, and that was just fine by me.
So I’m thrilled to report that I loved the movie. But I have some lingering thoughts.

The Jewish holiday of Purim is coming up next week. It involves, among other things, dressing in costume.
Last year I celebrated Purim in New York, so I went as Spider-man: The Musical.
“What happened to you?” people would ask upon seeing my bandages. “Julie Taymore,” I would reply.
It needs to be known that there is a Jewish superhero celebration each year on Christmas where they all eat Chinese food together.
Judging by the Thing’s costume, this must be from this year’s holiday special? I’ll need to check it out…
